A.D. Johnson will have to live with the consequences of his performance as the new coach of the New York Mets in the first half of the 2017 season.
Johnson’s season-ending injury last November came after he was out for five weeks due to a concussion and the zealous fans of the Atlanta Braves took to Twitter to complain about Johnson’s decision to take his team out of a playoff race against the Houston Astros.
The Mets had a 7-3 record and a wild card spot at the time of the injury and were playing the Atlanta team in the National League Division Series.
Johnson was not the coach at the same time.
The Braves had a 12-2 record and the NL Central division lead.
The Atlanta fans, who had been supporting the team through the first two months of the season, were disappointed in Johnson’s performance after the Mets were swept by the Astros in the NLDS.
A.J., who was out of the lineup due to the concussion, tweeted a photo of the team that was the closest to him.
Johnson said he did not want to let his teammates down, and that he was disappointed in the fans for what they did, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
In response, Atlanta fans took to the internet to express their displeasure, and some even took to social media to post their own personal images of Johnson with the caption “The Mets have lost.
I’m upset that this guy is not a coach.
I don’t care about you guys.
I’ll just do my job and we’ll get out of here.”
A.D.’s Twitter account retweeted some of the negative tweets, and he has since apologized to the Braves fans.
“I’ve been through a lot this year, and this is just a reminder to take care of your business,” Johnson said on Twitter.
“The fans deserve better.
I’ve never been a coach but I’m proud to be a part of the people of Atlanta.”
