Netflix Inc., the world’s biggest streaming video service, has announced plans to launch a new TV service in America and Britain.
The Netflix-owned streaming service will launch in the U.S. in the third quarter of 2021 and in Britain the first quarter of 2022, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
It will be available in both U.K. and U.A.E. territories, Netflix said.
“Our customers have been demanding more of us, and they are hungry for more, so we’re bringing a TV streaming experience that will satisfy them,” Netflix chief executive Reed Hastings said in the statement.
Netflix is also adding a range of content to the service.
The streaming service announced on Tuesday that it will begin offering its own original series, such as “House of Cards” and “Stranger Things,” to viewers in the UK, U.C. Berkeley and the U of A. It will also offer its own “Strangers,” a comedy series about two friends who go missing in the woods.
In addition, Netflix will start to air live-streamed episodes of its original shows in the United States, the statement said.
Netflix said it plans to add more original programming to the TV service over time, including new shows from producers like Alan Ball and John Green.
The company said it will also launch its own subscription video on demand service in 2020, which will include original shows from Netflix, Amazon Studios, Hulu and other providers.
